The Hazardization of Santa Barbara - Another Questionable Crossing

City of SB is in the process of constructing another bulbout crosswalk on Cabrillo Blvd. at Pershing Park for $290,000 of taxpayer money, with $16,000 per year estimated for maintenance.

Crosswalk

However for the past many years the cross walk (about 100 feet away) at Castillo Street has served the purpose.
Crosswalk

The result will be to force bikes that SBCC students ride on Cabrillo Blvd. into the right hand lane, which will make traffic dangerous. It is not clear if the palm tree will be removed, or if pedestrians will have to walk behind it. Since this is a redundant cross walk, who approved the city to spend this money for another obstruction?
