This Page will have a list of Bicycle History
In 1902, while discussing how to promote the newspaper
L'Auto
during a lunch meeting in Paris, sports journalists Henri Desgrange and Géo Lefèvre came up with the idea of holding a cycling race that became known as the Tour de France.
The race leader's yellow jersey (maillot jaune) was instituted later, probably to reflect the distinctive yellow newsprint on which
L'Auto
was published. It was printed on yellow paper because
Le Vélo
used green.
